“What happened to your sweet summer time dress?” –Amos Lee

From the song “Colors”

This line just stuck out to me because when you hear the line, you think, “Welp, that’s random. Where did the dress come from?” The dress just seems to come out of the blue.

I think the “colors” being described are actually visuals of happy experiences. The line before it is

“Yeah, I hear ya background bawling.”

So summer time dress is not only about happiness but is also used to associate with the visual of youth. Often times, the “summer of one’s life” is associated with the earlier part of life. Spring is about the beginning, fall is about towards the middle, and winter is about the end.

I don’t think there’s an official video for the song but this one looked like the best one out there. I like how they incorporated the dress. Not really sure what the girl is doing pressing random keys like a kid but I guess the child-like, playfulness of it goes along with the idea of youth.
