The phrase ends with

And all the time I’ll be growing, growing up beside you.

It doesn’t feel like growing though. There’s something wanting in this song. It’s as if the narrating character feels stunted and always subpar (the rain misses and the starting imagery compares himself/herself to someone “talented” in childhood endevours).
